Why Do We Worship The Way We Worship?

To those that haven't been introduced to a one-cup Church of Christ, components of our service may look strange.

Read below to discover why we worship the way we do.

Service on Sundays

We worship on the first day of the week, following the example in Acts 20:7 when the disciples came together.

A cappella Singing

We sing a cappella without instruments of music. This is because after the church is established in Acts 2:38, there is no biblical authorization of instruments used in service towards God. This is a deviation from the old testament. Eph 5:19

Teaching

We have a sermon every Sunday. Each lesson has a central theme designed to aid each Christian in his or her walk in faith. Acts 20:7

Prayer

We pray to open service and pray to end service. There will also be other moments when we pray during service: continuing in prayer as the church did in Acts 2:42.

Communion

We partake in communion every Sunday. 1 Cor 11:23-26 We drink from one cup and break bread from one loaf, continuing the pattern of the early church and the example provided by Jesus in Matthew 26:26-28.

Collection

We take a collection during service. 1 Cor 16:1-2 Christians are encouraged to give as God has prospered them and as they purpose to in their hearts. 2nd Cor 9:7
